“The World Today” Devotional Series – The Omnipresent One

The World Today - The Omnipresent One

”And there is no creature hidden from His sight,

But all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”- Hebrews 4:13 NKJV

Let us all take a moment to remember the days of our youth when we went to school and we were informed that our teacher would be out for the day. This was a day when we would have a substitute instructing the class.

Oh, there were many sighs of joy and relief. Some would rejoice and some would celebrate.

It was going to be an easy day ahead. Well, at least easier than normal.

This was a chance—it was an opportunity for some to act up and give the substitute teacher a hard time. It was a chance to do the things you wouldn’t dare attempt while your primary teacher was there.

The remaining few chose to be on their best behavior having empathy for what the substitute was about to go through and possible fear of what the primary teacher may eventually find out.

Many are now living in the world today believing that our Teacher will be out indefinitely and therefore, the reins are off.

It is a mindset that our human condition has adopted since Adam and Eve roamed freely through the Garden of Eden.

But just as Adam and Eve found out, we can never escape the watchful eye of our heavenly Father.

After acting in disobedience to the Lord’s mandates, the couple hoped to hide “themselves from the presence of the Lord God.” (Genesis 3:8 NKJV)

Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize, once wrote, “Hope is nature’s veil for hiding truth’s nakedness.”

Iniquity (from the Hebrew word ‘awon’ meaning perverse and deviating from the right path) is shrouded in hope:

  • We hope that no one sees
  • We hope that no one notices
  • We hope that no one tells
  • We hope that we can get away with it

But as a believer or even a non-believer, you cannot hide from He Who is Omnipresent.

God, and God alone, is all places at once.
As the Psalmist David so eloquently expressed in his worship to the Lord, “If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.” (Psalms 139:8 NKJV)

Whether masking abuse in the privacy of your domestic home or masking your face in the public stage of domestic terrorism, God is there.

We have a chance to demonstrate to the Lord our reverential fear of Him and our overwhelming gratitude to Him for leaving us in charge of His creation while we are here on earth.

It is an opportunity for believers to lead lives that bring glory to God knowing that His Spirit dwells within us and His Presence continually watches over us.

It is an occasion for mankind as a whole to understand that accountability to the Lord is a command—not an option.

Let us rejoice together, not thinking that the Teacher is away, but knowing that the Teacher takes delight in seeing the obedience of His pupils.

God Bless,
