The World Today - The Faithfulness of God

“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments”

Deuteronomy 7:9 NKJV

Much has been made of the symbol of the rainbow in the world today.

The use of the rainbow has galvanized social movements—representing a sign of ideals such as unity, diversity, allegiance, and pride.

It is a widely recognized badge of honor openly displayed by people who believe in these ideals and it denotes a demand for their rights.

It signifies a unified front against those who may oppose or infringe on their perceived rights and beliefs.

It just so happens that the rainbow is originally a symbol used by God as a sign of His covenant with humanity. With the Noahic Covenant—God’s covenant through Noah—God unconditionally promised that He would never again destroy all life on Earth by flood.

The Hebrew origin for word for faith is amanah which, when translated, means “support, agreement, covenant, and something that is fixed.”

So, when the heavens give forth rain and the clouds begin to break, a rainbow appears in the skies as a reminder to those with whom God has an agreement with that He is faithful to His Word.

God is fixed to His Covenant.

The rainbow is displaying God’s faithfulness to those Whom He is united to—those of diverse nations and languages whom He scattered across the Earth, those who have declared allegiance to His Son Jesus Christ, and to those who are proud, unapologetic, and persuaded believers of the Holy Spirit.

The rainbow is a sign of God upholding His end of the agreement. And the other side of the agreement is upheld by those who love Him.

So, if the rainbow is a sign from God to us, then what is our sign to God that we are in adherence to our covenant with Him?

By keeping His commandments, we are signaling to God that we are in accordance and in harmony with Him.

Life on Earth is a privilege from God. He has granted us the right to live within the confines of His creation under His Law.

And with rights come responsibilities.

Famed philanthropist John D. Rockefeller once said, “I believe every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity an obligation; every possession a duty.”

Therefore:

  • We have a spiritual responsibility to obey God’s moral and ethical laws
  • We have a binding obligation to respond righteously to every circumstance and situation that we face and
  • We have a fiduciary earthly duty to care for that which God has given us dominion over as stewards.

Being covenanted with God brings forth our call to be faithful to Him in every single aspect of our lives.

We show our faithfulness to God in our marriage, in our parenthood, in our employment, in our communities, and in our churches.

You are a covenant holder with God. And in that role, you are proudly displaying to the world through your conduct that God’s Will supersedes any and all personal desires in your life that do not conform to His reign and rule.

So, the next time you see a rainbow, think solely on how your faithfulness to God pleases Him so dearly.

You are God’s faithful partner for eternity. And that is truly the highest badge of honor which anyone can ever hope for.

God Bless,
